Jean Leinhauser and Rita Weiss are tops in this field. Totally recommend this to new and long-time crocheters. Fabulous collection of crochet stitches in a perpetual calendar format. Wonderful for the person who likes to create by using stitches rather than a full out pattern.
With this being a perpetual calendar, you can use it again and again. You can make several Afghans out of just trying your hand at each stitch by creating squares of the same size. I won't even try to figure out the math on that with all the yarns and hooks available today. Each day has a color photo of a crochet swatch and the instructions for creating it. The calendar starts with Special Instructions such as defining multiples and a list of abbreviations symbols and a glossary. Then just whip stitch them together into an afghan. Different yarn and hook sizes will give each pattern a different look. Keeping our days straight is not always easy or fun.
The flip pages are wire ringed bound so keeping your page open will not be a problem. January 1st is the V-Stitch and the 2nd is Clusters. With this perpetual calendar you can stay on track AND have a good time. Each day gives you a new crochet stitch to try. So not only do you get 365 patterns, with a hook or yarn change you get even more. With 365 different squares, you will be able to have several ready to give by next Christmas. The desk calendar is 8" wide and 6" high in a stand-up format.
There is no gauge size given so you can be creative and use whatever yarn type/size and hook size you choose.
This book is a must for anybody who crochets. Got it quick and was everything I dreamed it would be.
22nd is my most favorite stitch and I've sold an afghan with that stitch and got great feedback on it. So far, Sept. I've only had the calendar since September so I haven't seen all the stitches but I've tried a few on some afghan projects and so far I've loved the look I've gotten. Some of the more open stitches are best done with a fairly small crochet hook, like an 'f' hook or smaller.
Easy to read and follow. Everyday there is a new stitch. There are no actual patterns, but one can easily adapt a pattern through the stitch count. This calendar is great. If one is looking for something new or some inspiration for a project, this is it.
